BOTANICAL TRUTH

The
Ingredients

Every Sugandh Ink composition begins with a botanical - harvested, distilled, and integrated with rigorous attention to origin. These are the materials that make olfactory architecture possible.

The Naturals

Our Key Botanicals

Assam, India
Agarwood
Oud / Agar / Aloeswood

Formed when Aquilaria trees respond to fungal infection by producing a dense, resinous heartwood. Wild-harvested agarwood from Assam is among the most expensive natural materials on earth - a dark, smoky, complex material that forms the backbone of our Oud line.

OUD FAMILY
Rajasthan, India
Damask Rose
Rosa Damascena

Harvested before dawn to preserve volatile aromatic compounds that dissipate in heat. The roses of Pushkar and Kannauj are steam-distilled within hours of picking. Rose absolute from India possesses a depth and warmth absent in Bulgarian or Turkish varieties.

FLORAL FAMILY
Mysore, Karnataka
Sandalwood
Santalum Album

The white sandalwood of Mysore is the world benchmark for quality. Creamy, milky, and warm - it does not merely carry other materials; it elevates them. We use aged sandalwood oil as the base for all our traditional attars, sourced from Government-certified estates.

WOODY FAMILY
Kerala, India
Black Pepper
Piper Nigrum

Steam-distilled from unripe green berries at Wayanad estates. Dry, bright, and incisive - it adds a signature lift and sharpness to compositions. Present in several of our Fresh and Spice family fragrances as a top-note energiser.

SPICE FAMILY
Kashmir, India
Saffron
Crocus Sativus

Three stigmas per flower, harvested by hand at sunrise during a two-week annual window. Kashmir saffron is the world's most labour-intensive agricultural product. In perfumery it contributes a warm, leathery, slightly smoky character essential to our oriental compositions.

OUD · SPICE FAMILY
Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu
Vetiver
Chrysopogon Zizanioides

Roots aged for at least two years before distillation. Khas from the Nilgiris carries a distinctly earthy, smoky, woody character - quite different from Haitian or Sri Lankan varieties. An essential base note in our woody and aquatic families, providing longevity and depth.

WOODY · AQUA FAMILY
Uttar Pradesh, India
Tuberose
Polianthes Tuberosa

The most labour-intensive white floral - it cannot be steam-distilled and requires solvent extraction to produce the concrete. Kannauj tuberose is intoxicating, rich, and slightly narcotic. It forms the heart of several of our floral compositions.

FLORAL FAMILY
West India
Amber
Fossil Resin Accord

True amber is a fossil resin - warm, sweet, slightly vanillic, and deeply comforting. We use a traditional labdanum-benzoin-vanilla accord that recreates the character of Baltic amber with Indian botanical materials, forming the base of our Amber family.

AMBER FAMILY
Grasse, France · India
Jasmine
Jasminum Sambac · Grandiflorum

Two jasmine species feature in our compositions: Sambac (mogra) from South India, and Grandiflorum from both India and Grasse. Sambac is heady and fruity; Grandiflorum is delicate and honeyed. Together they span the full spectrum of jasmine expression in our floral and oud blends.
